Open Sale Of Rs 2,550 Tablet 'AAKASH' Only After Diwali



Those planning to buy Aakash, India’s much-hyped low-cost tablet will have to wait for a while. The tablet will be available in Pune markets only after Diwali, as the company developing the device will have to meet the Union government’s requirement of one lakh tablets first.

The low cost tablet is being developed jointly by Indian Institute of Technology, Rajasthan, and other institutions, along with the UK-based company DataWind Ltd, headed by Suneet Singh Tuli. The tablet which was being distributed among 500 college students, by the ministry of human resource development, this Wednesday, would be available at Rs 2,550.




This low-cost tablet, will run on Google’s Android platform, and will have 256 MB of RAM, a 2GB SD memory card, a 32 GB expandable memory slot and two USB ports. It will also have a WiFi connectivity for internet access and cloud storage. Currently, the tablet does not have a camera and 3G portability.

Aakash is mainly targeted at college students that are in need of these kind low-cost devices to carry out different tasks. The curiosity levels of students about this new device is high, and according to the reports, there have been numerous enquiries from college students about when and where Aakash would be available in Pune.

The Union government has decided to distribute one lakh tablets to various colleges across the country, for free, in order to get their feedback on Aakash.
